Our Purpose

Apart from being a fun alternative recreational activity for disabled people, fishing as a sporting pursuit is accessible to more people than many other sports. Fishing relies more on skill, knowledge and luck rather than physical prowess. As a recreational activity and a sport, fishing presents less barriers and more opportunities to people with a disability to participate without restrictions. As a long term goal we are interested in sending an Australian team to compete in events, however, such an enterprise is outside our financial reach at present.  Ideally we would like to see fishing competitions for people with a disability from Australia's states as a start towards an Australian fishing team.

We encourage people to join FDA as volunteers to assist people with a disability to go fishing. Volunteers enjoy the work, especially when it comes to helping children with a disability. The joy expressed by these people when they catch a fish is overwhelming and rewards the work of the volunteers. FDA is always looking for volunteers to assist with fishing activities and administrative functions.

In order to make the various activities possible, FDA runs a commercial van which has been customised with specialised fittings to make transporting equipment and volunteers convenient and efficient. We have an extensive range of fishing equipment which is utilised to the greatest benefit of members and convenience of  volunteers.
